Psychosocial Recovery Coaching | NDIS-Funded Mental Health Support

Living with psychosocial disability can present complex daily challenges, but you don’t have to navigate them alone. Our Psychosocial Recovery Coaching (PRC) service is here to walk alongside you, helping you build the skills, confidence, and connections you need to live a more meaningful, self-directed life.

Fully funded through your NDIS plan, our compassionate and qualified Recovery Coaches provide personalised, strengths-based support tailored entirely to your goals and circumstances.

What Is Psychosocial Recovery Coaching?

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is an NDIS-funded support designed specifically for participants living with psychosocial disability. Psychosocial Disability arises from mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other mental health challenges.

Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Psychosocial Recovery Coaching sits under the Improved Daily Living support category and is delivered by trained professionals who understand the complex intersection of mental health and daily life.

A Recovery Coach is not a therapist or counsellor — rather, they work alongside you in a practical, goal-focused way to help you understand your NDIS plan, develop coping strategies, strengthen social connections, and build the independence and resilience to live the life you want.

Recovery looks different for everyone. For some, it means returning to work or study. For others, it means rebuilding relationships, managing a home with greater confidence, or simply feeling more in control of day-to-day life. Whatever recovery means to you, we’re here to support it.

How Our Psychosocial Recovery Coaching Works

We take a genuine, person-centred approach to every coaching relationship. Our Recovery Coaches invest time to truly get to know you — your story, your strengths, your goals, and what matters most to you — before developing a tailored recovery plan that reflects your unique circumstances.

From your very first session, your coach will work collaboratively with you to:

1. Explore your goals and values

Understanding what a meaningful life looks and feels like for you is at the heart of everything we do.

2. Develop a personalised recovery plan

We create practical, achievable plans built around your NDIS goals and your personal aspirations.

3. Build capacity and independence

We help you develop everyday skills, emotional regulation strategies, and the tools to manage life’s challenges with greater confidence.

4. Coordinate your supports

Your coach will help you navigate and connect with NDIS services, community organisations, and other relevant supports to ensure your plan is working as hard as it can for you.

5. Support crisis planning

We help you identify early warning signs, create wellness plans, and develop post-crisis strategies so you always have a roadmap for getting back on track.

6. Champion your self-advocacy

We empower you to speak up for yourself, make informed choices, and take greater control over decisions that affect your life.

Our Approach: Strengths-Based and Recovery-Oriented

We believe that every person has the capacity to grow, contribute, and lead a fulfilling life regardless of the challenges they face. Our coaching model is grounded in evidence-based recovery principles, including:

Hope

We believe in your potential and help you rediscover your own sense of possibility.

Choice and Control

You lead the way. We follow your direction and support your right to make informed decisions about your own life.

Connection

Belonging matters. We actively support you to build meaningful relationships and participate in your community.

Strengths-Based Practice

We focus on what you can do and help you build on those foundations, rather than focusing solely on difficulties or diagnoses.

Responsibility

We support you to take ownership of your recovery in a way that feels safe and achievable.

Why Choose Us for Psychosocial Recovery Coaching?

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. Who is eligible for Psychosocial Recovery Coaching?

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is available to NDIS participants whose primary disability relates to a mental health condition (psychosocial disability). To access PRC, it must be included in your NDIS plan under the Improved Daily Living support category. If you’re unsure whether PRC is right for you, contact us we’re happy to have a free, no-obligation conversation about your situation.

2. How is Psychosocial Recovery Coaching different from Support Coordination?

Both services help you navigate your NDIS plan, but they serve different purposes. Support Coordination focuses on connecting you with the right services and managing your supports. Psychosocial Recovery Coaching goes further as it’s specifically designed to address the recovery needs of people with mental health conditions, building your skills, resilience, and independence over time. Some participants may have both funded in their plan.

3. How is a Recovery Coach different from a therapist or psychologist?

A Recovery Coach does not provide clinical mental health treatment, therapy, or counselling. Instead, they offer practical, strengths-based support to help you pursue your goals, build daily living skills, and connect with your community and support services. If you need clinical support, your coach can help you access and coordinate that as part of your broader recovery journey.

4. How often will I see my Recovery Coach?

The frequency of your sessions depends entirely on your individual needs, goals, and the amount of funding allocated in your NDIS plan. Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, or tailored to suit your recovery journey. Your coach will discuss the right level of support for you during your initial consultation.

5. Can I choose my own Recovery Coach?

Absolutely. We believe the relationship between you and your coach is central to your recovery, so we work hard to match you with a coach whose skills, experience, and personality suit your needs. If at any point you’d like to discuss your match, we’re always open to that conversation.

6. How do I get started with Axis Support Coordination?

Getting started is simple. You can contact Axis Support Coordination via phone, email or our online contact form to book a free consultation. Our friendly team will assess your needs, review your NDIS plan, and create a personalised support plan to help you achieve your goals with confidence.

7. Is Psychosocial Recovery Coaching available in my area?

We deliver Psychosocial Recovery Coaching across multiple states and territories in Australia. Contact us to confirm availability in your area, including telehealth options if in-person support isn’t accessible for you.
